AZ-500 is an intermediate-level Microsoft training course designed to develop practical skills for securing Azure and hybrid environments. It covers identity and access, networking, compute, storage, databases, security governance, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft Sentinel.
AZ-500 is not designed as a beginner-level Azure course. Participants should have practical Azure administration experience and a strong understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, Azure compute, networking, and storage before attending.
AZ-500 leads to the Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate certification when the required examination is successfully completed. However, this certification is scheduled to retire on August 31, 2026.
You will learn how to secure identities, networks, compute resources, storage, databases, applications, and cloud workloads. You will also learn to use Microsoft security technologies such as Azure Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft Sentinel.
Yes, until August 31, 2026. Microsoft has scheduled both the AZ-500 exam and associated certification for retirement on that date. The AZ-500T00 courseware is also scheduled for retirement. Professionals planning future Azure and cloud security training should review Microsoft's replacement SC-500 pathway.
