Advanced Web Attacks and Exploitation (WEB-300)

WEB-300: Advanced Web Attacks and Exploitation is an advanced web application security course from OffSec designed for experienced penetration testers and security professionals. It builds on the foundations covered in PEN-200 and WEB-200, moving into deeper vulnerability analysis, source code review, exploit development, and advanced web application exploitation. The course focuses on understanding why web vulnerabilities occur and how they can be discovered and exploited, rather than relying only on automated tools. Learners work with techniques such as source code analysis, fuzzing, static and dynamic analysis, advanced SSRF, persistent XSS, blind SQL injection, .NET deserialization, PHP type juggling, PostgreSQL exploitation, file upload bypasses, server-side template injection, and WebSocket-based command injection.

FAQs

How is WEB-300 different from WEB-200?

WEB-200 focuses on foundational, primarily black-box web application assessment, including common vulnerabilities such as XSS, SQL injection, SSRF, XXE, SSTI, and IDOR. WEB-300 moves to advanced exploitation, source-code analysis, custom exploit development, and deeper analysis of how vulnerabilities work inside applications.

How important is source-code analysis in WEB-300?

Source-code analysis is a central part of WEB-300. Learners are expected to examine application logic and understand the underlying cause of vulnerabilities rather than relying only on external behavior or automated scanners. The course specifically covers manual code review, static analysis, dynamic analysis, and source-code analysis.

What programming knowledge is recommended before taking WEB-300?

Programming knowledge is important because the course involves analyzing application code and developing exploitation techniques. OffSec recommends being comfortable reading and writing at least one programming language and being able to write simple Python, Perl, PHP, or Bash scripts.

What types of advanced vulnerabilities are covered in WEB-300?

The course covers advanced SSRF, JavaScript prototype pollution, persistent XSS, session hijacking, .NET deserialization, blind SQL injection, PHP type juggling, magic hashes, PostgreSQL exploitation, SSTI, XXE, database-function RCE, file-upload bypasses, and WebSocket command injection, among other topics.

What does the OSWE exam assess?

The OSWE exam assesses practical web exploitation skills. Candidates work against vulnerable systems in a private VPN, develop working exploit scripts, obtain the required proof, and submit detailed documentation explaining their exploitation process. The current exam requires a minimum of 85 points out of 100.
