The Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) is a practical cybersecurity certification that validates hands-on penetration testing capabilities. It focuses on a candidate's ability to identify vulnerabilities, exploit systems, escalate privileges, and document findings rather than relying solely on theoretical knowledge.
The primary associated training is Penetration Testing with Kali Linux (PEN-200). It provides structured learning materials, exercises, and practical lab environments designed to develop penetration testing skills relevant to the OSCP+ examination.
OSCP is not an entry-level cybersecurity certification. While PEN-200 is considered foundational within OffSec's penetration-testing curriculum, learners are expected to have a solid understanding of TCP/IP, networking, and Linux. Bash scripting and basic Python or Perl knowledge are beneficial.
The practical examination lasts 23 hours and 45 minutes. Candidates then have an additional 24 hours to submit their penetration testing documentation.
OSCP/OSCP+ can support careers in penetration testing, offensive security, red teaming, vulnerability assessment, security consulting, and security analysis. The certification is particularly relevant for professionals who want to demonstrate practical hands-on penetration testing capabilities.
