The CIPS Level 4 Diploma is an Ofqual-regulated professional qualification that develops the knowledge, technical skills and competencies required for a career in procurement and supply. It is the most popular starting point for professionals working towards MCIPS Chartered Status.
The qualification contains eight compulsory modules: Scope and Influence of Procurement and Supply, Defining Business Need, Commercial Contracting, Ethical and Responsible Sourcing, Commercial Negotiation, Supplier Relationships, Whole Life Asset Management, and Procurement and Supply in Practice. Together, these modules carry 60 credits.
It is suitable for procurement officers, buyers, supply chain coordinators, contract officers and professionals responsible for purchasing or supplier management. It is also suitable for individuals seeking progression into supervisory or managerial procurement roles.
CIPS states that learners with more than two years of relevant business experience can enter the qualification. The Knowledge Academy also specifies entry routes based on age, qualifications and relevant work experience. Completion of the Level 3 qualification is not compulsory.
All eight modules are assessed through computer-based examinations using Objective Response and Constructed Response formats. The total examination time is 15 hours. OR examinations have a 70% pass rate, while CR examinations have a 50% pass rate. Learners must pass all eight module examinations to achieve the Diploma.
